“As someone who is queer and disabled, I was never encouraged to participate in sports as a child. Imagine my surprise to find out that I am a talented runner. I’m a longtime member of New York Road Runners, one of the first organizations in the world to create a category (with prize money) for nonbinary runners, and to allow all runners to self-identify their gender. We all line up at the same starting line, with the same goals and dreams of getting to the finish.”
